Our Chapter

NSCS Star Status: Gold

The NSCS chapter at Wayne State University is an active and dynamic honorary society uniting high achieving students.

The NSCS-WSU chapter members meet monthly, usually on the second week of each month. The officers provide members with up to date news on activities, events, and much more. The monthly meetings are also a good time to meet and network with other members!

NSCS at Wayne State is committed to having members active both on and off campus. Volunteer work is something this chapter strives for. Each member is given opportunities and advised to volunteer their time around the community as much as possible. The hardest working individuals at the end of each year are recognized, and awarded.

Throughout the school year, NSCS is involved in a wide array of activities. Here is a list of just some of the past, current, and future events:

  • Woodbridge Community Youth Center: Weekly tutoring service for elementary students in Detroit

  • Adopt A Family: Providing a more joyful holiday season for a Detroit family in need.

  • Greening of Detroit: Assisting in the reforestation of Detroit

  • Gleaners Food Bank: Donating and packaging canned food to be distributed to Detroit families in need.

  • Capuchin Soup Kitchen: Volunteer at the soup kitchen in Detroit

  • Monthly NSCS Bake Sales: Stop by State Hall once every month and treat yourself with something sweet. Proceeds go to cancer research funding.

  • End of the Year NSCS Party: Social event for all active members at the end of the year.

This list is made available in order to give a reference to what events members have signed up for. If you sign up for an event, you are expected to attend. If you are unable to attend due to foreseen circumstances, you must give a warning 48 hours prior to the event. Otherwise, points will be deducted according to the event. If an emergency occurs within 48 hours of the event, simply provide evidence of the emergency and you will not be deducted points.

NSCS WSU Chapter Scholarship Recipients:

Name: Natalie Mannino

My name is Natalie Mannino and I am a Senior at Wayne State University. I have been a part of NSCS since the winter of 2013. I am PreMed, but my major is Chemistry, and I have a minor in Italian. I enjoy reading (like it's a serious problem) and if I could, I would sit outside all day and read. I love being a part of NSCS. To me NSCS is more than just an organization - it's a family. Going into NSCS I thought it was just one of those groups that you put on your resumé to make it look better. It's not true for this group, however. I have made great friends and had some amazing experiences. I like the bake sales where I can sit and talk to my friends. I love bonding over making crafts, playing games, and dressing up for parties. I like having the opportunity to discuss classes with the friends I have made through the organization. NSCS has been one of my favorite groups while attending Wayne State.

Name: Syed Rahman

My name is Syed Rahman and I am a Business Management major interested in pursuing a career in Human Resources one day. I like to work with people so in the business aspect I can see myself training and developing employees in a top firm. When I am not worrying about school I like to go biking with friends, watch movies, try different cuisine, and travel.I am a part of a few different organizations here at Wayne State but I get the most satisfaction out of NSCS. Being a part of NSCS has afforded me the privilege to give back to the community of Detroit by tutoring kids, donating to people in need, and meeting new people who love the same things as I do. I can say since I joined I have put myself out there and I feel honored to have the opportunity to be a part of something so much bigger than myself.

Name: Erica Lyn Cora

I am a junior at Wayne State with a major in Kinesiology and a minor in Business and have been involved in NSCS since 2012. This organization is great because it provided opportunities to volunteer in Detroit and meet new people. I have explored this city and feel like I've made a difference.
